Pros: DataMirror 2.5 has a well designed UI that offers multiple backup profiles and good auto backup selection*.

 

Cons: This program has a lot of bugs! None of the links to start the program worked. The application window flickers while running. I was unable to delete backup profiles even though the software has a delete button for the profiles. The real time sync didn’t sync in real time.

 

Other Thoughts: This software has real potential. The UI when it works is one of the best I’ve seen. There is almost no reason to look at the help file, which is good since the link to it in the start folder doesn’t work. *The “idea” of setting up a profile to sync your backups in real time is an excellent option, but since doesn’t work it’s still an idea. Also the fact that I had to manually link the desktop and start folder icons to the .exe file is not a good sign of reliability. At the end of the day the backup software you use has to work and this software has too many bugs for me to recommend it to anyone.

App Received a 5 out of 5

Pros: This software works as advertised. It’s a mere 236.63k and extremely easy to use. After the app is installed just right click on the file you want modify or remove and select the “Unlocker” tab. This software will delete rename or even allow you to move files and folders when Windows gives you any of the errors listed below.

• Cannot delete file.

• Access is denied.

• There has been a sharing violation.

• The source or destination file may be in use or the file is in use by another program or user.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Some errors are more aggressive than others and Unlocker may require the PC to be restarted to modify or remove a file.

Videora Ipod Converter

Videora iPod Converter is a free iPod video converter that converts video files, YouTube videos, movies and DVD’s so you can play them on your iPod.

This App received a 4 out of 5

Pros: This program is easy to use, has a slick interface, and will convert just about any file. User can set up automated features like adding converted files to itunes or set up multiple file conversion queues. Also the software has the best built in capability of downloading and converting youtube videos I’ve seen.

Cons: Although software states that it can convert dvds you will need to backup the dvd (with a third party software) onto the PC hard drive first then Videora will be able to convert the files. The software has a limited tutorial on how to accomplish this.

 

Other Thoughts: Since this software is free the developers do take donations and they have included embedded banner ads. I didn’t find the ads intrusive and they didn’t seem to hinder the my ability to perform video conversions. The reason the I gave Videora a 4 out of 5 is because they advertise the ability to backup dvds to an ipod (which is sorta true) but since you need a 3rd party app to accomplish that it makes Videora in my view incomplete.
